It’s pretty hard to write descriptively about a DJ like Lena Willikens. The term ‘versatility’ gets bounded around a lot when discussing selectors, but very few have achieved such a perfect and varied appreciation of oddball, lesser-known dancefloor-focused rhythms that garners respect across various scenes. Both as a solo artist and via acclaimed back-to-backs with fellow Salon des Amateurs alumni Vladimir Ivkovic, the Düsseldorf selector strings together tracks with a character and experimentalism which have to be heard to be believed: blending electro, EBM, techno, and world music as part of sets that only someone who started DJing at SDA could feasibly achieve. Expect chugging synth-lines, strange rhythms and an absolutely irresistible urge to dance. If you know you know – don’t miss one of the best.
